President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed on Sunday that Pakistan China defence cooperation will continue to expand, especially in aviation and defence production. Speaking during his 10-day visit to China, he stressed that the partnership was vital for regional security. His remarks came while touring the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), a major aerospace and defence conglomerate.
At the AVIC complex, Zardari reviewed advanced projects, including the J-10 fighter jet, the jointly developed JF-17 Thunder, and the J-20 stealth fighter. He praised their role in strengthening Pakistan's air force, particularly during the May 2025 conflict with India. The president highlighted that these technologies enhanced Pakistan's ability to defend itself and maintain stability in the region.
The president also met engineers and scientists, listening to their insights on innovation, unmanned aerial systems, and integrated command operations. He described AVIC as a symbol of China's progress and an enduring sign of Pakistan China defence cooperation. Officials noted that Zardari was the first foreign head of state to visit the facility, making the trip historic.
He was accompanied by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, MNA Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, and Pakistan's envoy to China. Chinese officials, including Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, joined the tour. Later, Zardari arrived in Shanghai, where he was warmly received by senior Chinese leaders. His itinerary also includes meetings in Xinjiang and further discussions on regional trade and development.
According to the Foreign Office, the talks will cover economic cooperation, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and future connectivity projects. The visit underscores the tradition of high-level exchanges between the two nations. Officials said it also reflects their mutual commitment to long-term ties. With defence, aviation, and trade cooperation at the core, Pakistan China defence cooperation is expected to reach new heights.
