CDC reports drug-resistant bacteria infections up nearly 70% nationwide | FOX 28 Spokane

A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals a significant rise in infection rates from drug-resistant "nightmare bacteria" between 2019 and 2023.

According to the CDC, these bacteria are challenging to treat due to a specific gene, and only two antibiotics are effective against the infections, both of which are costly.

CDC researchers noted that cases have increased by more than 460 in recent years, affecting over two dozen states. They are actively tracking these cases to better understand and manage the spread of these infections.
