The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall of Indian Punjabi Bazaar brand Green Pistachios due to possible Salmonella contamination. The product was sold in 200 g packages with UPC code 0 201540 307486 and marked "packed on Aug/13/25." Distribution was limited to the Indian Punjabi Bazaar at 499 Ray Lawson Blvd., Units 4-10, Brampton, Ontario.
The recall is connected to an ongoing foodborne illness outbreak investigation. The Public Health Agency of Canada is conducting an inquiry into human illness cases linked to the outbreak. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not appear spoiled but can still cause illness. Reported symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Serious infections may occur in young children, pregnant women, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems, while long-term complications can include severe arthritis.
Consumers who purchased the affected pistachios are advised not to consume, serve, sell, or distribute the product. Items should be discarded or returned to the point of purchase. Anyone who believes they became sick after consuming the recalled product is advised to contact a healthcare provider.
The CFIA has classified the incident as a Class 2 food recall warning and is verifying that recalled products are being removed from the marketplace. The investigation may lead to additional recalls. The alert was first published on September 29, 2025, under identification number RA-78154.
