Greek Tourism 2025 | Performance in 9 months: what major markets contributed - Ministerial statement | TornosNews.gr

The Bank of Greece records an increase in travel receipts by 9% and in arrivals by 4% in the 9 months of January-September 2015, compared to the corresponding period of 2024. Specifically, receipts amounted to 20,133.3 million euros and arrivals to 31,600.9 thousand travelers.

The performance of the main markets in the 9 months was:

* Travel traffic from Germany increased by 8.2% and amounted to 4,844.0 thousand travelers. Receipts from Germany recorded a decrease of 0.8% and amounted to 3,115.4 million euros.

* Travel traffic from the United Kingdom increased by 4.3% to 4,056.4 thousand travelers. Receipts increased by 11.9% to 3,098.0 million euros

* Travel traffic from France decreased by 0.6% to 1,709.0 thousand travelers, while receipts increased by 7.3% to 1,192.0 million euros,

* Arrivals from the United States increased by 5.6% to 1,272.6 thousand travelers, while receipts increased by 11.7%.

It is noteworthy that in September 2025, travel receipts decreased by 3.6% compared to the corresponding month of 2024, although inbound travel traffic increased by 3.6%. This development is attributed to the 7.8% decrease in average tourist expenditure, as it amounted to 573.8 euros in that month compared to 622.5 in the corresponding month of 2024.

+4.3% increase in arrivals by both air and road

Travel traffic through airports in the 9 months recorded an increase of 4.3% and travel traffic through road border posts also increased by 4.3%. During the aforementioned period, travel traffic from EU-27 countries amounted to 18,887.7 thousand travelers, showing an increase of 0.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2024, while travel traffic from other countries increased by 9.3% and amounted to 12,713.3 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from euro area countries increased by 5.6%, while travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro area decreased by 8.1%.

Kefalogiannis' statement

Commenting on the performance of the 9 months, Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogiannis emphasizes:

"We have already entered an era when quality tourism creates all the conditions for this strong pillar of the Greek economy to mean a higher quality development of business and investment activity, higher quality jobs and local communities that develop in a balanced and sustainable manner, as destinations.

Above all, however, this collective success creates a strong condition for strengthening the return on the benefits of tourism in Greek society, which are distributed in a fair and balanced manner.
