'Forgotten witness' to MH370's disappearance claims he knows what happened

A man alleges to have seen the notorious Boeing 777, carrying 239 passengers, engulfed in flames.

The decade-long enigma began on 8 March 2014 when Malaysia Airlines flight 370 disappeared while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. It remains the most significant and deadly mystery in aviation history.

In 2014, a New Zealand oil rig worker was dismissed from his job after reporting what he believed was MH370 ablaze.

Mike McKay was taking a cigarette break while working at the Songa Mercur oil rig off the coast of Vietnam on that fateful night, according to CNN.

57-year-old McKay claimed to have seen an aircraft on fire at high altitude. He sent an email to his employers about it, stating he "observed the plane burning at high altitude at a compass bearing of 265 to 275 degrees from our surface location."

The email started: "Gentlemen. I believe I saw the Malaysian Airlines flight come down. The timing is right. I tried to contact Malaysian and Vietnamese officials several days ago. But I do not know if the message has been received.", reports the Mirror.
