You might be surprised by how many of your favourite holiday movies were filmed in this Ontario town.

In fact, Almonte is known as "Mini Hollywood North" as it's been a go-to location for movies set in the U.S.

The small town is featured in the 2020 movies "Fatman," set in Alaska, and "The Christmas Setup," which is set in Milwaukee.

According to Tripadvisor, one of the best things you can do in Almonte is the Almonte Riverwalk. Make sure you bundle up for the winter!

"You can have some romantic moments with a beautiful back drop of river scenery. Lots of historical facts along the way and can take lots of photos," writes Tripadvisor reviewer Jennifer C from Toronto.

If you'd prefer to eat with a view, you can watch the waterfalls while dining at Joe's Italian Kitchen at 7 Mill St.

You may have passed Collingwood on your way to the Blue Mountain ski resort, but this town has so much more to offer.

You can start by planning your visit around meeting Santa Claus in downtown Collingwood. He'll be in front of the Federal Building on Nov. 22 and 29 as well as Dec. 6, 13 and 20.

Then, you can explore over 20 kilometres of ski trails at Highlands Nordic Ski. Rentals are available.

After a long day of fun activities, you can unwind by watching the sunset over Georgian Bay at Sunset Point Park -- and this isn't the only place where you can do that.

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW Elora

Dubbed the most "festive" village, Elora has no shortage of things to do for the holiday season.

The Elora Christmas Market starts Nov. 14 and is on from Wednesday to Sunday until Christmas from noon to 8 p.m.

On Nov. 20 and 21, then again on Nov. 27 and 28, you can go to a late-night shopping experience called Starlight Shopping. As the website says, they have savings, shopping and a whole lot of festive spirit.

But if you miss that, you can always visit the gallery at Elora Centre for the Arts. Visit their website for events and exhibitions to attend and an artisan shop to buy from.

Paris ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW

We don't mean the city of love in France, although that would be nice too. Luckily, Canada's version of Paris has its own perks -- in fact, it's even called "Ontario's prettiest town."

Paris, Ont., is at the intersection of the Grand and Nith rivers, which is great for scenic views. In addition to being known for how pretty it is, Paris is also known as the "Cobblestone Capital of Canada" since many historic buildings were made using the stones.

Dining at Stillwaters Plate and Pour could be the perfect end to the perfect day. This restaurant is so romantic that it was in Opentable's 2025 list of top 100 romantic restaurants.

And according to its own Instagram bio, it offers the "Best Dam Views in Paris."

Lots of Christmas events take place in Perth every year. This year, you can enjoy local shops and free s'mores at "Once Upon a Christmas" on Nov. 22.

There will even be a horse-drawn carriage, which adds to the old-timey Christmas feel.

People with kids can take them to Santa's workshop, where they'll decorate cookies and write letters to Santa.

A Festival of Lights starts on Nov. 15 and continues through the holiday season. Trees will be lit from 4 p.m. until dawn. You can only view the trees from inside the Crystal Palace during events.

Crystal Palace is located at 31 Basin Lane, opposite Perth's town hall.

For more holiday activities and events in Perth, visit the town's page.

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW Stratford

Stratford is known for its vibrant arts scene with its multiple galleries, music events and festivals. And it's also where Justin Bieber is from, which is fitting.

In early September, downtown Stratford and Market Square were filming locations for Hallmark's upcoming movie called "Pining for Douglas."

If you're thinking of Stratford for your next holiday getaway, you may want to consider planning it around the town's annual Lights On festival. Like the name suggests, Lights On features interactive light installations and is taking place from Dec. 12 to Jan. 18 -- and it's free.

Visit lightsonstratford.ca for more information about the event.

You can also get your Christmas shopping done through the Stratford Christmas Trail until Dec. 20. This works by purchasing six vouchers you can use at participating businesses.

More spots

These are just a few spots that we recommend. Ontario has many fun towns, all with their own unique ways to celebrate the holidays.
