Kentucky's Mark Pope Gets Major News on Top Transfer Portal Commit

The Kentucky Wildcats recently concluded their first season under head coach Mark Pope.

Kentucky hired Mark Pope after parting ways with longtime head coach John Calipari, who now leads the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Pope led the team to the Sweet 16 during his first season with the Wildcats. Kentucky defeated Troy 76-57 and Illinois 84-75 in the NCAA Tournament.

After the season, Pope and his coaching staff worked toward rebuilding Kentucky's roster via the transfer portal and high school recruiting.

On Thursday, CBS Sports reporter Jon Rothstein tweeted that Jaland Lowe, who committed to Kentucky during the offseason, will return to school after initially choosing to declare for the NBA draft.

Lowe tested the NBA draft waters after two seasons with the Pittsburgh Panthers. Last season at Pitt, Lowe averaged 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.

One of the brightest stars in the ACC, he followed that up with a successful freshman season, averaging 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

As Lowe makes his way to Kentucky, Pope shared his thoughts on one of the top players from the transfer portal.

"It's very rare that you run into a guy who's been as pronounced a talent as he has and is dying to play with more talent around him and wants to be a guy that steps into a program where he wants to stir the drink, he wants to make guys better," Pope said, per Aaron Gershon at 247Sports. "He wants to elevate guys and wants to be around guys that have a ton of gravity on the court."

Fans look forward to the top prospect's return
