Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark's odds for winning 2025 WNBA MVP honors dipped Tuesday following news of her left quadriceps strain and subsequent absence.
Clark started the regular season at +195 odds earlier this month, but the markets shifted after the Fever announced Monday that she will be sidelined for at least two weeks and four games. Fever coach Stephanie White said Clark told the team after Saturday's game against the New York Liberty that she felt pain in her left quad, and a subsequent MRI revealed a strain.
Clark's extended absence will mark the first time she's missed a game in her college or pro career, ending a streak of 183 consecutive games played.
With her absence, the Minnesota Lynx's Napheesa Collier has taken over as the favorite for MVP.
Collier sits at -175 odds, the first odds to dip into minus territory, and Clark's lengthened slightly to +250. The Las Vegas Aces' A'ja Wilson (+700), Los Angeles Sparks' Kelsey Plum (+5000) and Liberty's Breanna Stewart (+6600) round out the top five.
At the season's start, Wilson (+200), Collier (+250), Stewart (+1200) and her Liberty teammate Sabrina Ionescu (+2500) led MVP honors odds behind front-runner Clark.
Collier's jumped ahead as the favorite while averaging 29.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in four games with the Lynx, who are 4-0 and sit first in the WNBA standings. Collier is in her seventh season with the Minnesota Lynx, where she has spent her entire career, and is coming off a 2024 season in which she won the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award and secured her fourth All-Star selection.
Clark is in her second WNBA season after winning Rookie of the Year and taking the league by storm last season, drawing sellout crowds at games and boosting the league's TV ratings. She's averaged 19 points, six rebounds and 9.3 assists in four games for the 2-2 Fever.
White said Clark's absence gives Indiana "an opportunity to grow and learn how to play without her on the floor."
