Equinix has officially launched its new data center, SN1, in Salalah, Oman, establishing a pivotal hub for global data interconnectivity. Constructed in collaboration with Omantel, a leading Middle Eastern telecom provider, SN1 marks Equinix's sixth facility in the region and its second in Oman.
This open-access, carrier-neutral Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX) center is positioned to optimize data flow between businesses and service providers across four continents. SN1's strategic location along critical global data routes would enable more direct and cost-effective connectivity options, enhancing the efficiency and resilience of international networks.
Omantel has invested over $1 billion in international networks and data centers over the past decade, positioning Oman as an appealing location for global hyperscalers. Its joint venture, Zain Omantel International (ZOI), marks a significant expansion into the wholesale telecom sector, providing end-to-end connectivity solutions across the Middle East and beyond.
