Beginning at 7 p.m. each night, University of Notre Dame Professor for the Public Understanding of Science Kate Biberdorf, known as "Kate the Chemist," will introduce Notre Dame researchers who will discuss topics that highlight the intersection of science and life.
Topics and presenters include the following:
■ "Art, Earth, and the Urgency of Now," Monday, May 19: This program explores how art and science work together to help us reckon with loss, resilience and the natural forces shaping our world. Through orchestral sounds and coastal stones, we'll connect with the past to better face the future. With Cynthia Katsarelis, professor of conducting; Lee Haines, associate research professor; and Hannah Spero, a doctoral candidate.
■ "Life's Spark and Comic Art: Origins of Life and Transforming Science Education," Tuesday, May 20: This program explores creating life in the lab and using comics to revolutionize science education. With Saurja DasGupta, a biochemist and assistant professor, and Argha Manna, a biologist-turned-cartoonist and guest assistant research professor.
■ "Look Up!! Studying our Universe using Telescopes and Simulations," Wednesday, May 21: Two Notre Dame scientists will present how they use both modern simulation and advanced telescopes to reveal the secrets of the universe. With Roman Gerasimov, postdoctoral researcher, and Keith Davis, associate professor of the practice, department of physics.
Each night also features trivia with prizes.
Pint of Science is a national non-profit organization that brings scientists to a local bar or café to discuss their latest research and findings.
