In the region: Virginia Tech wrestling announces schedule

Defending ACC champion Virginia Tech announced its schedule for the upcoming season Wednesday.

The home schedule includes a clash with Oklahoma State on Feb. 15. The Cowboys beat visiting Tech 34-9 last year. Oklahoma State finished third at the NCAA championships last season, eight spots ahead of Tech.

Tech will open the season in the Southeast Open on Nov. 2 at Roanoke College's Cregger Center. The home opener will be Nov. 7 against Bucknell.

Virginia Tech will be among 16 national powers competing in the inaugural National Duals Invitational, which will be held Nov. 15-16 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Tech will face Appalachian State on Jan. 16 at the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, formerly known as the Moss Arts Center.

The Hokies will visit North Carolina State on Jan. 30. State finished eighth at the NCAAs last season.

The home schedule also includes Stanford, North Carolina and Duke.

The road schedule also includes Pittsburgh and Virginia.

As previously announced, Tech will host the ACC championships on March 8.

Grace Mitchener had 10 kills, 11 digs and three aces and the No. 9 Generals (8-0) cruised to a 25-10, 25-15, 25-11 win over the Maroons (4-6) at the Cregger Center.

Raygan Wade had 11 digs and nine assists for RC.

Bridgewater 3, Hollins 0

Reagan Stoop had six kills, two aces and two digs to lead the Eagles (5-3) to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-13 road win over Hollins (3-5).

Norah Madrey had five kills and four digs for Hollins.

MEN'S SOCCERFerrum 2, Shaw 1

Jadon Brooks and Amanuel Walie each scored a goal as the Panthers (1-0) opened their season with a home victory over the Bears (0-1).

Radford 2, ETSU 2

Jaime Carrillo scored twice for East Tennessee State (0-4-1) and Carter McClain and Hiromasa Iwai scored for Radford (1-2-2) as the teams played to a draw.

WOMEN'S SOCCERMary Baldwin 3, Hollins 0

Mackenzie Shores scored two goals as the Flying Squirrels (3-1) claimed a home win over Hollins (0-2).

Roanoke 1, Randolph-Macon 1

Kacee Schmidt scored for Roanoke (2-2-1) in the first minute and Alexa Stohr scored for Randolph-Macon (0-3-1) in the 59th as the teams played to a draw at Kerr Stadium.
