The province is also asking people to review their vaccination records and ensure they are protected with the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) or measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (MMRV) vaccine. Those born in 1970 or later who have never been vaccinated and have not had measles are being advised to receive the vaccine.
Individuals exposed to measles should limit contact with others, especially those who are unimmunized or have weakened immune systems, from the fifth day after exposure until 21 days after the last exposure.
Infants under six months, pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems should not receive the vaccine but may be eligible for preventative treatment. Public health officials may also direct close contacts to isolate and consider vaccination.
More information on measles, exposures, and immunization is available on the provincial government website or by contacting Health Links-Info Santé.
