Who's the No. 1 quarterback in the National Football League heading into the 2025 season?

Most, of course, would say that it's Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is a three-time Super Bowl champion, after all. He's been, arguably, the best player in the league for about a decade now. He's never missed the AFC Championship Game as a starting quarterback. That's Tom Brady and LeBron James like.

But is he still the best quarterback in the National Football League in 2025?

According to Bill Simmons, the founder of The Ringer and a die-hard New England Patriots fan, the answer is: No.

Simmons picked someone else to be at No. 1 overall for the 2025 season in terms of quarterback play.

According to Bill Simmons, the No. 1 quarterback in the National Football League will be Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen, not Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes.

Allen, of course, is the reigning NFL MVP. It's not shocking to see him ranked No. 1. Still, most would probably still go with Mahomes. After all, he's a three-time Super Bowl champion. And he's always taken down Allen in the playoffs, when the games matter the most.

But perhaps 2025 will be the year that Allen finally dethrones Mahomes in the playoffs. The Bills have been close on multiple occasions. Really, really close, if you ask Bills fans.

Still, it's a surprise to many to see Allen ranked over Mahomes.

Of course, Simmons is a Patriots fan, sparking some "conspiracy" theories with the rankings, too. Is Simmons trying to jinx Allen into a bad year?

It's possible, knowing Simmons.

"As a longtime Simmons listener, I feel confident in saying that at least a portion of this take is based on Bill being excited about the Patriots again and trying to reverse jinx Allen," Ben Axelrod of Awful Announcing shared.

Time will tell if Simmons is right, of course. The 2025 NFL season is obviously a huge one for Allen and the Bills.
