Netflix Enlists One of the Biggest Names in TV for New Harlan Coben Series

Netflix's new series based on Harlan Coben's novels about the character Myron Bolitar got a major name as producer. Mega TV producer David E. Kelley (Lincoln Lawyer) will be collaborating with Coben as co-writers and co-executive producers, per Deadline.

Coben signed a deal with Netflix several years ago which has seen several of his books adapted as shows and upon renewing in 2022, Netflix got access to the 11 Bolitar novels and a novella called Win. Having Kelley team up with the author is perfect, as he already has Lincoln Lawyer streaming on Netflix, which is also based on the series of novels by Michael Connelly.

Kelley is a prolific television producer and writer, having created some of the biggest shows of the last few decades, including L.A. Law, Ally McBeal, The Practice, Presumed Innocent, and several others. And not all of them are legal shows; the author famously wrote Lake Placid about a giant crocodile terrorizing a small town in Maine. He also created Doogie Howser, M.D., Picket Fences, and Chicago Hope.

The Bolitar series is a major priority for Netflix and Coben spoke to Deadline a few years ago about how protective he is of the popular Bolitar character, a former basketball player who becomes an agent to celebrities and sports stars:

"Certainly Myron Bolitar is dear to my heart. I've written 34 books, a third of them involved Myron Bolitar; he is my most prized possession, and I'm really happy now that it's in the Netflix camp, so that we can work hard on making it right. It's one of the properties I've probably been a little bit more precious about. It's easier to move a story like 'The Stranger' or 'Stay Close' to another country. Myron being a series character that people read over and over again, takes a little bit more care and has to be in the USA."

While it's still early in development, it sounds like the series is moving fast and casting could be announced in the next several months.

Netflix and Coben Already Have Multiple Hits

Ever since Netflix and Coben entered into a production deal in 2018, the author has seen multiple shows produced and released on the streamer, yet all have been for markets around the world. For example, Fool Me Once, a huge hit for Netflix, is a British show. And most recently, there have been two more internationally-based shows, including the Spanish-language Caught (debuting Mar. 26) and the Polish-language Just One Look (debuted on Mar. 5).

Coben's novels are famous around the world, and it makes sense that Netflix would adapt books for specific markets. Missing You, Stay Close, The Stranger, Gone for Good, The Innocent, The Woods, Hold Tight, and The Woods are other series that have debuted on the streamer.

Up next for the streamer and Coben is I Will Find You, the first U.S.-based series that follows the novel of the same name and is about a father, played by Avatar's Sam Worthington, who is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, the murder of his son.
