GRAND FORKS -- Former UND guard Mier Panoam is headed to the Big East.
Panoam announced Saturday on social media the Alaska native has committed to Xavier and coach Richard Pitino.
Panoam averaged 13.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season. In conference play, Panoam averaged 15.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
Panoam was a full-time starter as a sophomore for the Hawks in his first season in Grand Forks after transferring from Tulane.
The 6-foot-2 guard shot 45.5 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from 3-point range.
UND finished 12-21 overall and fell to St. Thomas in the Summit League semifinals after knocking off South Dakota State behind a 51-point performance from Treysen Eaglestaff in the quarterfinals.
At Tulane in the 2023-24 season, Panoam appeared in nine games off the bench.
Panoam was originally a three-star recruit and No. 12 player in Georgia in the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports.
Xavier finished 21-10 in the regular season in 2024-25, reaching the NCAA Tournament as a No. 11 seed. After beating Texas in the First Four in Dayton, Illinois beat Xavier in the first round.
On March 23, 2025, Xavier head coach Sean Miller was announced to be leaving as the next head coach at Texas.
On March 26, Xavier announced Pitino would become the next head coach.
Panoam is the younger brother of former UND player and current UND Director of Basketball Operations Bentiu Panoam.
The Hawks have lost five of their top six scorers from last season, led by Eaglestaff, who has committed to West Virginia.
The team's third-leading scorer, Amar Kuljuhovic, is headed to Missouri State.
Eli King, at 8.3 points per game last season, is UND's top returning scorer from last season.
UND will bring in Central Washington's Garrett Anderson (previously of San Jose State), Devils Lake native Wylee Delorme from the University of Mary and post Josh Jones of Oral Roberts. In addition, a true freshman class includes twins Marley and Micah Curtis of St. Louis Park, Kindred's Karson Ouse and Hopkins' Anthony Smith III.
