Learning with the Lawton Farmer's Market

Learning with the Lawton Farmer's Market

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - The Lawton Farmer's Market is home to several vendors, as well as a few classes.

People packed the Terry K. Bell Classroom this week to learn about raising chicks, and hatching eggs, which can be a great resource with recent surges in egg prices.

It's part of the weekly gardening and farming classes, which happens between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. every Saturday.

Katelyn John with 4J Meats taught this week's class about raising chickens.

"I think education is powerful, knowledge is key," she said, "and just to continue the cycle, if I could help one person, then my goal is complete."

That's not all, in addition to those gardening and farming classes, people were also able to learn about wellness in another class.

Eight people graduated "A Way to Wellness", an eight-week course teaching healthy lifestyle habits.

Melissa Simms told us what students learned.

"We talk about activity, we talk about nutrition, sleep, and stress, ways to manage all of the triggers," she said, "and eating healthy away from home."

While the course is over, there are plans to continue "A Way to Wellness" in the future.
