NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A bill proposing new changes to electronic processing regulations and language passed unanimously in the Senate Monday evening.
SB 0329 was introduced by Senator Bill Powers (R-Clarksville). Newly enacted, the law will introduce changes requiring every department, agency, office, commission, institution or instrumentality of the executive branch to accept electronic transmissions previously submitted via fax.
The law will also replace the terms "fax," "facsimile," and "email" in certain existing statues with the term "electronic transmission" to reflect the shift towards more modern communication methods. Effectively, it aims to update language in state law to allow more items to be sent through methods like e-mail, instead of limiting documents from only being sent by fax.
The bill passed the Senate after being received from the House and passed on first consideration in late February. The Senate Calendar Committee recommended the bill for passage with amendments on March 4, before being unanimously approved during the Senate floor meeting on March 10.
It heads to Governor Bill Lee's desk for his signature.
