PHILADELPHIA -- On the field, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders did not have any big moments during Wednesday's joint practice against the Eagles.
During the team period (11-on-11s), Sanders stood off to the side with the rest of Cleveland's reserves. He never took a snap.
But Sanders finally had a big moment after practice when he rode a golf cart around the Novacare Complex with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was in the driver seat.
"Yeah, I keep the conversation intimate," Hurts said. "We had a very lengthy conversation. He came to me and just wanted to talk. I'm always there as I said earlier, giving my perspective on what I see and how I've gone about things.
"Ultimately, it takes a great deal of patience and hard work and a sense of resilience. You got to want it, you got to want it. So I'm supporting him from where I am and wishing him nothing but the best with his opportunities."
We might never find out what was said -- unless Sanders goes more in depth about the conversation.
But it's easy to inference why Sanders wanted to speak with Hurts. Sanders has been questioned and discounted over the last three months -- and no other quarterback in the NFL can relate to that feeling more than Hurts.
Throughout his football career, Hurts has been doubted and scrutinized.
After he got benched during the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship game for Tua Tagovailoa, it all began. Even after Hurts won Super Bowl MVP, it still remains. Some people still discredit him for what happened at Alabama and for where he was drafted (second round).
Sanders' criticism is more intense.
Not everybody loved how Sanders handled the draft process, which led to his unexpected fall to the fifth round. He was once considered a future NFL starter, but the path is now more difficult. The Browns placed him fourth on their QB depth chart.
Knowing that Hurts exceeded expectations could give Sanders confidence that he could do the same.
Hurts' story could inspire Sanders and other QBs who are coming up, and he can be someone they lean on during tough times.
