A driver reported damage to her 2025 Ford Explorer Aug. 9 after the car in front of her on the northbound freeway hit a tire lying in the roadway and it went flying into her windshield.
She pulled over to safety in the construction zone near the Cedar Road interchange and called police.
Officers said the loose tire appeared to have fallen off of another car and was not connected to accidents from cars hitting a pothole two days earlier.
Theft: Fairmount Boulevard
Police responded to the Creative Living for Life at Ursuline Sisters residential development Aug. 8, where a Lakewood contractor working on the remaining special needs housing reported $6,000 worth of materials from a truck that had been locked on site for an undetermined amount of time.
The only items so far listed as stolen were plumbing-related, but separate from the $900 bathtub reported stolen from the site June 19.
This time around, the contractor suspected that the thieves had cut the original lock on the truck, then replaced it to avoid immediate detection.
He thought this because his key was not working in the lock.
Police were also called in to have the truck towed back on July 23, because the administration believed the contractor had quit at that time, although he arrived at the site just as the wrecker got there.
