One local nonprofit celebrated Erie Gives Day in style, splashing away the stigma behind mental illness.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) put on a 12-hour-long livestream to raise funds for mental health awareness in connection with Erie Gives Day.
During one hour of its livestream, the nonprofit set up a dunk tank at its parking lot on Peach Street, dunking a person for every donation received.
And although it was a lot of fun to watch Meteorologist Craig Flint get dunked over and over again, the donations for the event go a long way.
"It'll help us continue to give free services to the community," said Wendy Jacobs, executive director of NAMI. "There's over 400 nonprofits involved in Erie Gives Day, so there are so many nonprofits to choose from today, we would truly appreciate your support for NAMI."
Coming up on September 14, NAMI will have its annual NAMI Walks event at Penn State Behrend, and Jacobs said that they are already off to a great start with donations.
