Further upgrades for Newcomb school

Newcomb Primary School students will soon have access to an upgraded playground and undercover area as work begins.

The school playground and undercover area will be updated with synthetic turf and asphalt paving thanks to a $251,962 investment through round two of the federal government's Schools Upgrade Fund.

Member for Geelong Christine Couzens said she was glad to attend the school for the first sod turn, marking the start of upgrade works.

"This upgraded playground and undercover area we're building... are wonderful examples of our commitment to giving Geelong students the first-rate education they deserve," she said.

Acting Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll said the recent upgrades to Newcomb Primary School were part of a $48.1 million federal government investment to improve 67 state government schools.

"Victorian students deserve access to a quality education close to home, regardless of their background or where they live," he said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Corio Richard Marles said the federal government was proud to invest in regional schools.

"(The investment will) help to deliver great infrastructure and quality equipment, so that our local students have the best facilities to learn and play," he said.

The school was also recently modernised thanks to a $3.2 million investment through the state government's 2019/20 and 2020/21 budgets.

The funding allowed for the delivery of new STEM and art classrooms, an administration facility, a relocatable building and an IT server room.
