The Burnsville girls basketball team was denied its first South Suburban Conference win Jan. 5.
Sixth-ranked Lakeville North led by 15 at the break and rolled to a 66-48 road win over the Blaze.
Junior Emma Fee led the way for Burnsville with 23 points, grabbing five boards, while senior Hannah Mitby finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Burnsville (4-7 overall) dropped to 0-3 in the SSC. The Blaze is back on the league court Jan. 8 at Apple Valley in a battle of Section 3AAAA foes at 7 p.m.
Burnsville follows with two SSC home games - versus Rosemount Jan. 12 and against Prior Lake Jan. 15. Both start at 7 p.m.
Against Lakeville North, Fee and Mitby combined for 41 of the Blaze's 48 points. Senior Sarah Gigstad chipped in eight rebounds for Burnsville. Eighth-grader Zhane Thompson scored four points, while senior Mikayla Woebke had two points, three steals and two assists.
Burnsville is just 1-7 after is 3-0 start. With games at No. 1 Eastview (Jan. 26) and home to Eagan (Jan. 29), along with the Apple Valley and Rosemount contests, the Blaze has a chance to make a statement against Section 3AAAA competition.
Burnsville is 1-1 against section foes so far, beating Park (55-52) and falling to Eagan (61-39).
