Former Alabama chiropractor gets life in prison for trying to fatally poison his wife

A former Alabama chiropractor found guilty of the attempted murder of his wife earlier this year has been sentenced to life in prison.

Brian Thomas Mann, 36, of Hartselle, was arrested in 2022 after his wife, Hannah, 26, was unresponsive at UAB Hospital and was reported to Morgan County Department of Human Resources as a possible victim of intentional lead poisoning.

A UAB doctor testified in June that Mann had eight times the amount of lead in her body that a person would normally have and required around the clock irrigation of her colon to remove it.

Hannah testified that she first became sick in Aug. 2021, with severe back and abdominal pain and nausea.

Dizzy, lethargic and finding it difficult to walk, she said she took multi-vitamins provided by Brian.

She lost as much as 40 pounds and still has a large amount of lead in her body. If she had died, Mann was set to be paid more than $1 million in life insurance, according to testimony.

Contractor Danny Hill also testified that he remodeled Mann's office which included lining the walls of the X-ray room with lead, with some material left over.

During his sentencing hearing Wednesday, the state said this was a daily decision over a period of months to kill his spouse in one of worst ways possible and therefore Mann deserves the maximum sentence of life in prison, according to a report from WAAY 31.
