Bollywood's power couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt may belong to two of the industry's most prominent film families, but their relationship, Alia says, has never been defined by legacies. In a recent appearance on the show Too Much with Twinkle Khanna and Kajol, the actress candidly spoke about her bond with Ranbir, their journey from dating to marriage, and how life has changed after welcoming their daughter Raha.
"A Relationship Like Best Friends"
Reflecting on her equation with Ranbir, Alia shared that their connection has always been rooted in friendship. "Ranbir and I have a natural friendship. It was never a dewy, rose-tinted glasses sort of relationship. There was always a relationship like best friends. I married him because he is wonderful to me and also as a human being. But 100% the person I love trolling the most is him and the person he loves trolling the most is me. That is a very natural dynamic between two people," she revealed.
Parenthood Changed Everything
When asked if her relationship with Ranbir has evolved over time, Alia admitted that parenthood brought a significant shift. "It has changed after we have had a daughter. It's totally different. We are a unit now. It's way more a unit than before," she said, highlighting how Raha has transformed their bond.
Mahesh Bhatt's Silent Blessing
Alia also recalled the one time she spoke to her father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, about being in love. Instead of giving her advice, he offered a simple reassurance. "My father and I talked about me being in love once. That was the one and only time we spoke. I told him I'm in love and he said, 'I see it in your eyes, my child.'"
She fondly narrated the first meeting between Mahesh Bhatt and Ranbir, saying, "He (Mahesh Bhatt) was once dropping me to Ranbir's home, and he said, 'Call him down. I want to meet him.' And then Ranbir came down, and he did this to him... (imitates putting a hand on Ranbir's head while he bowed with folded hands). That was the moment, there was no advice, he just saw it in our eyes and he was really happy for us."
Ranbir As A Protective Father
Alia ended the conversation on a playful note, joking that Ranbir may be laid-back as a partner, but he is sure to be overprotective as a father. "I can't imagine that happening today with Ranbir and Raha, he will be kicking any boy that comes to the house," she laughed.
From best friends to life partners and now doting parents, Alia and Ranbir's love story continues to win hearts -- not because of their starry surnames, but because of the simplicity, humour, and warmth they share with each other.
