Srinagar, Oct 06: National Conference (NC) spokesperson and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, has welcomed the announcement of Rajya Sabha elections, expressing hope that Jammu and Kashmir will soon have representation in the Upper House.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Sadiq said, "It's a good development. We've been repeatedly urging the Election Commission of India and the Government of India to hold elections for the vacant Rajya Sabha seats at the earliest. It's a welcome move that the process has finally been initiated."
According to the notification issued on Monday, the last date for filing nominations is October 13, while the elections are scheduled to be held on October 24.
"We hope our seats in the Rajya Sabha will be filled soon and that Jammu and Kashmir's issues will find a voice there. We aim to win all four seats," Sadiq added.
Referring to MLA Doda, Sadiq said, "We hope Mehraj Malik, an elected Assembly Member, comes to the Assembly to speak for his people. The decision will be made by the High Court, but we hope he participates and represents his constituency."
He expressed optimism that the political process in Jammu and Kashmir would continue to gain momentum with the completion of these elections.
