Brunswick County area fire departments and EMS to hold fundraiser for injured firefighter - WWAYTV3

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) -- Last week, a firefighter was left in critical condition following a motorcycle wreck in Wilmington.

Now, several Brunswick County Fire Departments plan to hold fundraisers to support him and his family.

Chris Anselmo serves as an EMT in Brunswick County and as a firefighter for the Sunset Harbor-Zion Hill volunteer fire department.

Saturday, those two organizations, as well as the Bolivia fire department, will hold a car wash to raise funds to support Anselmo and his family.

Anselmo is still in the ICU.

Cameron Rave is a lieutenant with the Bolivia Fire Department who has worked with Anselmo.

Rave said Anselmo's energy is something his coworkers miss.

"Chris is, he's a fun guy to work with, he's a character," Rave said. "He's a comedian. He's got a heart for service, always being out here, doing what he can for the community. So he's always, he's a good presence to be around, he makes working fun, he takes care of his patients and he takes care of his co-workers."

The car wash will take place at 3848 Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia from 9 am to 2 pm.

Organizers say all proceeds will go directly to Anselmo and his family, and Sunset Harbor plans to hold another fundraiser for him sometime in June.
