STORY: :: Los Angeles struggles to stay cool as a heatwave hits the city
"So we were in the city hall and then we saw the park and we decided to stroll through it to the concert hall and all the way here we thought, 'Very hot.'" And then we arrived here at the fountain and suddenly it was quite nice. And we thought it's a perfect place to cool down with the fountain."
:: The National Weather Service issued an extreme heat warning for LA until Saturday
The City of Los Angeles is advising people to stay cool by staying hydrated and limiting exposure to direct sunlight from 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The city also has cooling centers set up at parks and recreation areas as well as local libraries.
Tourists Linnea Ueberle and Finn Scheuble told Reuters that they decided to stroll through a park. "And all the way here we thought, 'Very hot,'" said Ueberle.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said it will be monitoring the temperatures and has pre-deployed resources to high-hazard areas ahead of any fire risks. Some of those measures include water tankers, a strike team, additional dispatchers and a water-dropping helicopter.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department is taking similar precautions, meeting each morning to brief on conditions before strike teams deploy each day. Angelenos and tourists alike are finding ways to beat the heat.
