Salehe Bembury Officially Announces the Release of His Next New Balance Sneaker

The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 991v2 "Colors Be the Palette" will release in just over a week and features Blake Anderson of "Workaholics" fame in its campaign. Purple suede and mesh dress the majority of the upper, but room is spared for a number of multi-color accents. A blue tongue-tag with yellow text features co-branding, and a green sockliner meets a yellow mustache. An orange inlay near the heel has Bembury's signature fingerprint motif tucked into it, while grey paneling appears above the toe. The midsole is then split into beige and purple halves featuring red accents.

In the shoe's campaign video, which Bembury posted to Instagram Monday, Anderson soars above the mountains in a wind suit before landing on a plateau to discover the sneakers. Once he picks them up, they magically transport onto his feet.

The 991v2 is still young compared to most popular models in New Balance's slate, as the updated version of the sneaker originally released in 2001 was introduced late in 2023. Slight tweaks feature throughout the upper's design, including the addition of reflective accents, but the most significant change is in the midsole's new full-length FuelCell cushioning for a more modern underfoot experience.

A Stone Island collaboration launched the 991v2, and in the time since Kith, Patta and Daniëlle Cathari have all dropped their own version of the model.

The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 991v2 "Colors Be the Palette" will first release March 13 through Bembury's Be a Spunge website before hitting New Balance's website and select third-party retailers March 20. Pricing has not yet been confirmed.
