A few years ago I started having symptoms of something going on in my body. Some were vague symptoms, (exhaustion, brain fog, aching feet) and some weren't (skin rash). After almost two years of this, I found a functional doctor who ran two (expensive) blood tests and a genetic test. When those results came back we didn't have to guess anymore, we just had to apply treatment and tweak every 4-6 weeks.
About three weeks before we started "treatment", I was struggling to move from room to room without exhaustion. If optimal energy output level is 100%, I was at about 20%, and I had been losing energy daily. Within a month of supplement treatment, my energy was up to 80%, and almost a year later now, I am at full speed.
My functional doctor ran a micro-nutrients test which measures both blood serum levels and cellular levels of all vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and a few other things. This told us what I was deficient in but in a very specific way. If I was deficient in the serum, I wasn't getting enough in my diet. If I was deficient in my cells, there was a methylation breakdown.
The genetics test told me what genetic compromises I had that disturbed certain body functions. They tested 55 specific genes for methylation, mitochondria function, thyroid function, neurotransmitters, detoxification, external AND internal inflammatory and a couple other things.
The tests revealed that I was methylating at about 8-10%. This explained almost every symptom I was having. Dr. Walsh put me on five specific supplements.
Functional doctors test at the cellular and gene level. They don't even have to personally see you, because the tests they run tell them what they need to know. (that's how my doctor has patients all over the nation)
I've learned you need to listen to your body. It's not designed to breakdown. There are factors that cause its breakdown that can be healed or circumvented. (For example, two doses of a particular inositol supplement restored ALL of my energy. Also, I have to supplement specific B vitamins to circumvent the methylation breakdown I have from three genes. If I don't supplement them, I can tell. My body's functions are reduced dramatically.)
There is hope and there are answers. I've just never found them in the medical industry.
Find someone who specializes in both health on a cellular level and nutrition.

Don't ignore the check engine or maintenance lights
Have your knees started to protest? What about your joints? Are you waking up in the night or having trouble getting to sleep? Do you struggle with brain fog, exhaustion, focus, etc? These are your check engine and maintenance lights.
Your insurance recommended and approved PCP (primary care physician) is probably going to want to prescribe something for that, or maybe tell you it's a rite of passage for aging. You're welcome to take his/her advice, (I wouldn't), but it would be like telling you to turn up the radio so you don't hear the rattle in your engine, or throwing some WD-40 on your wheels instead of changing the brake pads.
To the level you've been entrenched in modern medicine practices is the level of deprogramming you'll have to do in order to change your health paradigm. Here are some things I'd counsel, if someone was coming to me about their health.
Seed oils are destroying your health
Stop using seed oils at home. Limit seed oils in your dining experiences. Almost all restaurants and especially all fast food places use seed oils, which are the largest contributors to inflammation in the western world. They are toxic to you. Treat them like poison.
Magnesium and Iodine
If you cannot afford or find a trustworthy doctor to run the blood tests to find your particular body's weaknesses, start with supplementing magnesium and iodine. [*Testing blood serum alone will never get you there, and that's what most PCP bloodwork measures. You must look at the cellular level as well.] The average American is deficient in both magnesium and iodine. Don't guess at this though. There are some excellent health experts that can teach you how to supplement effectively and prevent overdosage or complications.
We need everything they keep trying to keep us away from. We need sunlight. We need structured water. We need minerals and vitamins. We need clean oxygen.
Your liver has to process everything it smells. Stop and think about that. All of the artificial scents in laundry, perfumes, candles, soaps and lotions - besides the dangerous chemicals your skin absorbs from them that wreck your hormones - the burden on the liver is enormous. We're treating our organic bodies with chemicals on a daily basis in overwhelming capacity and it's overloading our bodies with toxins.
Here in America we treat our food and water with chemicals that have long-term consequences for our health. Get back to nature as closely as you can in what you eat, smell, drink and touch.

Detoxing is a matter of health or illness, maybe even life or death
We are continually assaulted with toxins. The average American's body is overwhelmed with toxins. Our bodies are designed to move toxins out of them. Did you know the flu is just your body detoxing? The flu occurs when your body is overwhelmed with toxins and needs to dump them. But the medical industry is selling you toxins (in the flu vaccine) to stop you from detoxing. Do you find that ironic? A little disconcerting? I wrote about that in this article, so I won't get into it again now.
Your lymphatic system must be clear to clean your blood. Many people's lymphatic systems are sluggish or blocked. Simple exercises will open up your lymphatic passages. You can look on youtube or social media reels to find them if you're unfamiliar. Here is a ten minute lymphatic drainage exercise.
Binders are vital for helping the body move toxins out. Activated charcoal, bentonite clay, pectin, silica, boron, TRS, fulvic/humic acid, etc are good binders for various toxins. Look each of them up for specifics of what binders to use for what toxins. This is my favorite regular binder for regular maintenance.

Water, water, water (especially structured) is a basically free health remedy. Increase your water intake (especially when you're detoxing), and lower your less than ideal beverages (sodas, juices, energy drinks, etc.).
Your immune system is head-quartered in your gut.
Heal your gut, and you are well on your way to optimal health. Most westerners have compromised immune systems. The SAD has critically compromised the fantastic micro-biosystem that runs your body's ability to adapt and heal. Auto-immune diseases and gastrointestinal diseases are a common problem in westerners.
Barbara O'Neil is considered the health and healing guru for millions of people, and her common sense approach makes learning easy. This book is an excellent start for internal restoration and balance.
Your body is electric - and if you don't understand THAT, endeavor to learn it.
Your body has its own electrical field and gives off its own frequency. Things can negatively interfere with your body's energy field and some of the worst in our modern world are wifi, bluetooth, and especially 5G frequencies.

A simple method to restoring balance to your body's electrical field is called grounding, where you simply stand on the bare ground barefoot for several minutes. The earth's magnetic field pulls the negative molecules into the earth, it's almost like clearing out static electricity for smoother conducting of energy.
The Invisible Rainbow, by Arthur Firstenberg, will lay out how these frequencies bombarding organic life are damaging it.
Nutrition reset
What you eat matters. This is the easiest and most efficient way I've found to reset your body and find what works for you (and doesn't). Read this book or find a video outlining the method. Thirty days is all it takes to reset and start anew.
In summary....
This is just a general overview of health issues plaguing Americans, and some things to be mindful of, and some strategies to restore health. Optimal health is attainable, but I personally can't find the solution in the western medical industry. Have I mentioned it doesn't matter how old you are? Or what you've been diagnosed with? There are solutions and resets for everyone still breathing.
Pay attention to the warning lights your vehicle is giving you. Don't ignore them. Don't wring your hands in despair and dismiss it as hopeless because the car is old or has been in an accident. You can reverse bad health from a deathbed, and that is a fact.

Find a functional doctor, a naturopathic doctor, a chiropractor trained in kinesiology and nutrition, or a good friend who walks in health and can give you sound counsel. Find sound health experts (not medical industry actors) and learn. Stop what's killing you, figure out how your vehicle was assembled and what works for it. You can have optimal health in a matter of months, you just have to start somewhere.
