Edinburgh locals are set to face a cold snap as the city drops below freezing just in time for the festive season.

A cold front is heading for the capital at the start of next week with temperatures to dip as low as -2.

As December draws near, temperatures will hover around the five degrees mark, dropping below zero between Sunday, November 16, and Thursday, November 20.

With a mix of cloudy and sunny conditions, it's set to be dry at the start of the week before a chance of rain or sleet on Thursday.

The Met Office forecast for Sunday reads: "Mostly dry with bright or sunny spells, but still quite chilly. Cloudier for a time in the afternoon with the odd shower around the coast of Berwickshire and East Lothian. Maximum temperature 8 °C."

Forecasters continued for Monday to Wednesday: "Chilly but often dry and bright Monday and Wednesday, but the chance of some showers around coastal areas, these wintry on hills. Chance of more persistent rain or sleet Tuesday."
