Demon Slayer is one of the most popular shonen anime right now, with Ufotable's gorgeous animation enrapturing fans from all over the globe. To combat the threat of powerful demons, talented swordsmen take it upon themselves to rid the world of Muzan's atrocities, while also teaching promising students the tricks of the trade.
This has led to some of the most endearing student-teacher relationships to form in the series. Many talented Hashira have learned their patented breathing styles from their teachers, with these bonds being especially strong in some cases.
Sakonji Urokodaki & Giyu Tomioka
Taught The Future Water Hashira The Tricks Of The Trade
Sakonji Urokodaki is one of the most important characters in the series. This masked sensei has taught some of the most notable characters in the series, including Tanjiro and Giyu Tomioka.
In the case of the latter, it's clear that Giyu was a talented student, since he was able to master Water Breathing and created a unique move of his own that could decimate demons with ease. While Sabito's loss cut both him and Sakonji deeply, Tanjiro was able to help Giyu shake off this grief and uphold his friend's legacy.
Tamayo & Yushiro
A Friendly Demon And Her Subordinate Who Work Together To Devise A Cure
Tamayo is one of the more fascinating characters in the series, with this friendly demon giving Tanjiro hope that Nezuko wasn't alone. She's trying to devise a cure to revert demons into humans while being constantly on the run from Muzan and his cronies.
After finding a man on the verge of death in her care, she had no choice but to turn Yushiro into a demon to help him survive. They both form a close bond following this, with Yushiro being fiercely protective of Tamayo and learning a ton under her wing.
Gyomei Himejima & The Kocho Sisters
Saved The Sisters And Eventually Taught Them How To Defend Themselves From Demons
Shinobu and Kanae Kocho are two of the most important characters in the series, but both of them could've met an early end had it not been for Gyomei's timely intervention. He saved the duo from being killed by a demon when they were young, and they eventually begged Gyomei to take them as students.
He was reluctant, but Gyomei eventually relented and taught them everything they needed to know. This allowed Kanae to become the Flower Hashira while Shinobi became the Insect Hashira, making it clear that he guided them in the right direction.
Sakonji Urokodaki & Tanjiro Kamado
Helped Tanjiro Learn How To Defend Himself Against Powerful Demons
After seeing his family killed by demons, with Nekuzo being the sole survivor who was turned into a demon, Tanjiro almost lost all hope. However, he decided to live on for his sister's sake and begged Urokodaki to teach him Water Breathing. After facing numerous trials, Tanjiro was able to learn this complex fighting stance.
As brutal as Urokodaki's trials were, it was clear that he regretted putting a young child in such a dangerous position. Seeing Tanjiro come back made him feel very proud of the determined boy, becoming his sensei at that very moment and teaching him the art of Water Breathing.
Kyojuro Rengoku & Mitsuri Kanroji
Mitsuri Developed Love Breathing Under The Flame Hashira's Watchful Gaze
Mitsuri is a monstrously strong woman who can use Love Breathing to great effect against her foes. Her backstory reveals that she learned under Kyojuro's watchful gaze, being able to develop an original breathing style after seeing her teacher's Flame Breathing in action.
The news of his death affected her deeply, and she decided to get even stronger and live up to her master's legacy. It's a great relationship that adds a ton to Mitsuri's character and makes her one of the best Hashira in the series.
Jigoro Kuwajima & Zenitsu Agatsuma
Zenitsu's Sensei Always Believed In Him, Which Made Jigoro's Passing That Much Harder To Stomach
As much of a goofball as Zenitsu may seem, it's clear that he loved his sensei deeply. Jigoro may have been hard on him, but he could see Zenitsu's natural talent at Thunder Breathing, given how adept he was at using the first and most important form of Thunder Breathing. During their training, Zenitsu could feel this love emanate from his sensei, which pushed him to try harder despite his cowardly nature.
Zenitsu's devotion to his sensei is what drives him to take on the demonic Kaigaku in battle in the final arc of Demon Slayer, something that fans of the anime are no doubt eager to see in action.
