Fittima Fitness empowers women to build their physical strength

Washington, D.C. (7News) -- Owner of Fittima Fitness Fatima Karama joined Good Morning Washington on Thursday with weightlifting advice for women.

Strength training for women can benefit both their physical and mental health. Karama says that lifting can support the bones, build metabolism and boost one's confidence at the gym and in their daily lives.

Karama is offering a class this Saturday called "Babes and Barbells". The class is intended to provide structure and guidance to new and seasoned "babes" alike. "Going into the gym, I know it can be intimidating," says Karama, adding that her goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and build a positive relationship with working out and their bodies. "You're around a great group of females... it's a party!"

Karama is also a personal trainer, which she says allows for more personalized attention, and a more thorough impact on each individual's fitness journey. She adds that these sessions "very detailed on form and proper movement of your body."

She then demonstrated a quick fitness circuit including resistance bands and dumbbells, which work the legs, core and arms.
