In Clayton, family, friends remember life of UNCW student EllaRyan Miller, who was hit by train

CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Family and friends of a UNC-Wilmington student hit and killed by an Amtrak train gathered in Clayton on Monday for a celebration of life.

EllaRyan Marie Miller, 21, was leaving her summer job on Main Street in Clayton last week when the incident happened. She was walking across the railroad tracks to get to her car in a nearby parking lot and was hit by the train.

Ell, as she was called by her loved ones, graduated from Clayton High School in 2022 and was a senior at UNCW.

She also worked as a yoga instructor on campus. Co-workers there remembered her as a bright, calm-natured person.

"EllaRyan taught over 100 group fitness classes with us just in the time that she was teaching here, and she had a few thousand participants," Campus Fitness Coordinator Ashton Simon told ABC affiliate WWAY. "When people leave this studio, they remember the person who walked them through that, so she really did touch the lives of everyone that she worked with here."

Miller was a senior majoring in communication studies, with a minor in entrepreneurship.
