Cade Klubnik stats: Grading Clemson football QB in loss vs Syracuse

CLEMSON -- Clemson football quarterback Cade Klubnik had his best game this season vs Syracuse.

Klubnik had highs and lows in Clemson's 34-21 loss vs. Syracuse on Sept. 20 at Memorial Stadium. His best moments included throwing three touchdowns for Clemson (1-3, 0-2 ACC) with his worst coming on failing to extend drives in his Week 4 start.

Here's a quick rundown of Klubnik's performance against Syracuse (3-1, 1-0).

Klubnik was 37-of-60 passing for 363 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He completed passes to 10 different receivers. He also rushed for 1 yard on four carries.

Klubnik completed 62% of his passes, his best against a Power Four opponent this season. He completed 75% of his passes against Troy, a Group of Five program, in Week 2.

He found receivers on a variety of passes despite facing some duress from Syracuse's defensive line. He hit wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. on a 38-yard touchdown in the first quarter and Adam Randall for a score in the second. He threw a late interception in the fourth quarter, too, as Clemson attempted to mount an improbable comeback.

Clemson had 18 third- and fourth-down opportunities and converted on only four of them.

Klubnik was 5-for-11 passing for 58 yards on third downs. He could not extend drives when Clemson needed him to, having a fourth-down incompletion and failing to convert another on a designed-run play.

It was Klubnik's best performance, but Clemson's offense was still disjointed, a sign of the Tigers' continued struggles. He is entering the open date playing at an improved level from Week 1, but he and the rest of the offense must find their identity to prevent a bad season turning into a horrendous one.
