A DOG who had to undergo a life-changing facelift surgery before finding his perfect home has been adopted.

Peter, a Shar Pei, was struggling with discomfort from the facial folds around his eyes when he was handed over to the care of Dog Trust Evesham earlier this year.

The one-year-old was suffering from painful facial folds and eyelids that had grown inwards, a condition known as entropion, which left him in constant discomfort.

He already had one operation but still needed more help when Dogs Trust Evesham took over his care in February this year.

Peter's drooping skin folds were so severe that they hung over his eyes, making his condition even worse.

He was then given rhytidectomy - a facelift procedure rarely seen in dogs along with delicate eyelid surgery - Peter's world changed for the better.

Julie Irons, Veterinary Nurse at Dogs Trust Evesham, said: "Certain breeds, like Shar Peis, are more prone to conditions such as entropion and excessive skin folds because of the way their skin develops.

"In Peter's case, the surgery wasn't cosmetic.

"It was essential to improve his comfort, protect his vision, and give him the best quality of life possible."

Once Peter had fully healed from his surgery, he was finally ready to meet his forever family and was soon adopted alongside his kennel-mate, Blue.

A spokesperson on behalf of Peter's new family said: "Blue and Peter came to us shortly after losing our beloved Staffie, who passed away at fourteen and a half years.

"Together they have turned us back into a little family again.

"Although Peter is still very young, he is learning very fast and is excellent on his walks and in the car.

"He has been on holiday to Blackpool as well as weekends away in Worcestershire, and adapts to any new environment.

"We absolutely could not be without him or Blue in our lives now."
