'Literally runs off the road trying to look': Woman says she caught an Uber driver trying to look under her dress

A woman says that she had a traumatic experience in an Uber. The experience has purportedly already prompted the company to launch an investigation.

Earlier this week, Maya Tindall (@maya.tindall2) posted a video of her riding in the backseat of a car.

Tindall's text overlay on the TikTok reads, "POV you're in an Uber and the driver literally runs off the road trying to look up your dress."

In the 20-second clip, the male driver turns around and looks in the direction of Tindall's bare legs as the car rolls to a stop. Then he looks up at the camera and turns back around.

He mumbles something unintelligible, to which Tindall replies, "Why wouldn't I be good?"

Tindall suggests that this isn't the first time the Uber driver turned around.

She captions the TikTok, "He only stopped when he saw me recording. SMH I'm traumatized."

Tindall didn't immediately reply to an inquiry sent via TikTok comment. Her account doesn't accept messages from people she isn't friends with.

Tindall's TikTok quickly went viral. A little over a day after she posted it, it's already racked up 3.2 million views.

The post also caught Uber's attention. A comment attributed to its response support team says the company is looking into Tindall's claims.

"We take rider safety very seriously and this behavior is not acceptable," Uber writes. "We have escalated this to a specialized team who is actively investigating."

Uber did not respond to an email sent Wednesday morning inquiring about the status of its investigation.

Thousands of people commented on Tindall's TikTok. Many of them are sharing horror stories they say happened to them in Ubers.

The complaints appear to mainly come from women.

A woman named Vanessa says a driver pulled a gun on her. "The man was fired, but it took a lot of follow-up," she alleges.

Another claims that a driver saved her address and came back later. Yet another says an Uber driver assaulted her.

"The driver is now locked up for 3 years and I'm in a class action lawsuit against Uber with multiple ladies!" she writes.

The nonprofit Helping Survivors reports that thousands of women have sued Uber based on allegations including sexual assault, kidnapping, and harassment. There's currently multi-district litigation against the company based on allegations of sexual assault. Helping Survivors reports that as of this month, there are 3,000 plaintiffs in the case.

A few people noted that Lyft allows women and nonbinary riders to request female drivers.
