Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh addresses Golden Jubilee event of Environment Society of India

Hon'ble Haryana Governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh on Friday addressed the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Environment Society of India (ESI) at CSIR-CSIO here, calling the occasion a significant milestone in India's environmental movement. The event witnessed the presence of Smt Mitra Ghosh, First Lady of Haryana, Shri DK Behera, IAS, Secretary to Governor, Dr RC Mishra, President, Environment Society of India, Prof Shantnu Bhattacharaya, Director, CSIR-CSIO and Dr Rachna Mishra, Vice President of the Environment Society of India.

In his address, Hon'ble Governor Prof Ghosh lauded the ESI for its 50 years of dedicated environmental service. Established in 1976, the Environment Society of India took early responsibility for raising public awareness on ecological balance, biodiversity and sustainable living -- long before environmental concerns gained mainstream attention, he said.

Prof Ghosh said that over the decades, the ESI has championed a wide range of initiatives, including eco-clubs in schools, biodiversity awareness drives, tree plantation campaigns, bird conservation activities and observances of World Environment Day, Wetland Day, and the National Children's Science Congress.

These programmes, he noted, have inspired thousands of young people to value nature and adopt environment-friendly habits. The Governor highlighted the ESI's strong community engagement and its partnership with CSIO, which has helped bring scientific knowledge closer to students and the public.
