Lifeplan put away with Classic campaign in mind

Gimcrack hero Lifeplan will not be seen again this season, as connections set their sights on 2000 Guineas glory with the exciting York winner.

Declan Carroll's son of Kodi Bear, who was a €165,000 yearling, confirmed the promise of his Thirsk debut when dazzling on the Knavesmire and giving his jockey Zak Wheatley a red-letter day by claiming the prestigious Group Two contest.

Lifeplan's trainer suggested Newmarket's Middle Park Stakes would be the obvious next step in the aftermath of his York triumph, but following a rethink with owner Martin Tedham, attentions now turn to making the talented colt a Classic winner next season.

Carroll said: "Lifeplan is fine but myself and the owner had a chat and decided we would leave him for the year now and we will put him away and train him for the Guineas next year.

"He's definitely one to look forward to. He'll stay (here) over the winter and keep him ticking over. We're looking at him as a Guineas horse and that's what we'll aim for. We'll start him off in one of the trials and go from there."

"It gives us something to look forward to and he's a very exciting horse. We've been very pleased with what he has done in his two runs and we'd be hopeful there is more to come next year."

Lifeplan is currently a 25-1 shot with Unibet for the colts' Classic at Newmarket on May 2.
