One of the Best Pure Action Films in Years Just Premiered and Blew Audiences Away With a 100% RT Score

Summary Collider's Steve Weintraub talks with the cast of The Furious at TIFF 2025. In the movie, a father will stop at nothing to rescue his daughter, who's been kidnapped. Director Kenji Tanigaki and stars Xie Miao, Joe Taslim, Brian Le, and Yayan Ruhian discuss their action-packed martial arts film, the training that went into pulling this off, filming on a tight schedule, and more.

While the premise of a father hunting a man who kidnapped his daughter may sound like a familiar one, The Furious takes it and makes it into something fresh for audiences to dive into. Bringing together a team of pan-Asian actors and directed by Kenji Tanigaki, the fight choreographer whose work on SPL helped redefine the martial arts genre, the film unites icons from across decades of action cinema.

Xie Miao leads the cast as Wei, a determined patriarch, and is joined by Joe Taslim (The Raid: Redemption), playing a journalist searching for his missing wife (Jija Yanin), whose investigation collides with Wei's pursuit of his daughter (Yang Enyou). The antagonists of the cast are equally formidable: Yayan Ruhian (The Raid) as an archer-assassin, Joey Iwanaga (High & Low) as a twisted heir, and Brian Le (Everything Everywhere All at Once) in a breakout role.
