Three professors from the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) have been ranked among the top 2 per cent scientists in the world in the latest annual list published by Elsevier, based on research from Stanford University.

Dr Bhaskar Singh, Head and Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences, has made it to the list for the fifth consecutive year in the disciplines of Energy and Biotechnology. Dr Sachin Kumar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Energy Engineering, appeared for the third consecutive year in Energy and Environment. Dr Arnab Sankar Bhattacharyya, Assistant Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, has been recognised for the first time in Applied Physics and Materials.

The recognition reflects the global impact of their research. Dr Bhaskar Singh focuses on biodiesel development and environmental solutions, with 110 publications and 6,535 citations. Dr Sachin Kumar specialises in waste valorisation and energy generation from plastics and biomass, with 61 publications and 2,320 citations. Dr Bhattacharyya works in nanostructured thin films, coatings, computational modelling, and energy/biomedical materials, with 67 publications and 700 citations.

Vice Chancellor Prof Kshiti Bhusan Das congratulated the researchers, saying their work brings "global glory to CUJ and pride to the academic community." He added that the university has made significant efforts in recent years to elevate its research to national and international standards.

Prof Arun Kumar Parhi, Dean of Research and Development, highlighted the methodology behind the Stanford-Elsevier rankings. The publicly available database analyses over 100,000 scientists worldwide, using metrics such as citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, and composite indicators, classifying researchers into 22 fields and 174 sub-fields.

CUJ's achievement underscores individual excellence while positioning the university as a rising research hub in Eastern India. The accomplishments serve as inspiration for students and faculty, demonstrating that world-class research is achievable in Jharkhand.
