Exact date snow could hit Britain after Storm Amy - Birmingham Live

Some areas of the UK may see snow falling on the rooftops after Storm Amy sweeps Britain.

The GFS weather model map has highlighted parts of Scotland are set to see snow between October 18 and 19, with the popular tourist destinations of Perth and Inverness expected to see snowfall.

Other areas of the country such as Ross and Cromarty are also expected to see a dusting of snow, while the rest of the UK is forecast to face heavy rain.

The north of England and Scotland will see rain moving towards the east during the course of the day as conditions are expected to become "widely unsettled" as the month comes to a close.

The Met Office forecast for October 18 to November 1 states: "The latter half of October will see a transition to more widely unsettled conditions once more, though the timing of this remains unclear.

"Whether this takes the form of successive depressions moving in from the Atlantic or a rather slower evolving weather pattern remains to be seen, but there is a greater chance of more places seeing more frequent spells of rain or showers and possibly strong winds later in the month.

"Temperatures probably close to average overall."

Storm Amy is currently battering the UK, with winds of up to 100mph and heavy rain expected in some parts of the UK.

British Weather Services' senior meteorologist Jim Dale told the Mirror: "Amber warnings are not to be sniffed at, even if they are in parts of the country more used to storms than other parts.

"We're expecting to see +90mph peak gusts in the most exposed parts of north & northwest Scotland, pushing 100mph possibly.

"It's 959mb at the core of Storm Amy, so definite cyclogenesis taking place, AKA a weather bomb."

A number of weather warnings are currently in place across Britain, with northern Scotland and Northern Ireland taking the biggest hit.
