Malaysia Producer Prices Rise 0.8%

Malaysia's producer prices increased for the second straight month in January, figures from the Department of Statistics showed on Thursday.

Producer prices climbed 0.8 percent year-on-year in January, reversing a 0.5 percent rise in December. The expected increase was 0.7 percent.

Among sectors, the price index for agriculture, forestry, and fishing grew the most by 16.5 percent from last year. Prices for electricity and gas supply rose 0.4 percent, while the fall in mining prices softened to 1.3 percent from 7.0 percent.

The price index for manufacturing showed a fall of 0.6 percent, slower than the 1.0 percent decline a month ago.

On a month-on-month basis, producer prices moved up 0.3 percent in January, following a 0.8 percent gain in December.
