Happy Memorial Day weekend. For many, that means an extra day to relax and recharge -- but it also means extra time for some fun events around Westmoreland. Here are a handful.

Yinzer Valley Spring Wine Fest

Yinzer Valley Farms is having its first Spring Wine Festival on Saturday. This is a great opportunity to find some delicious wine, mead, beer and spirits from local and regional producers to enjoy, in addition to tasty treats and snacks for purchase and entertainment.

In addition to food and drink options, there will be musical performances and a mini-market of vendors selling wares from clothes to candles to permanent jewelry.

General admission tickets will be $50 cash-only at the door, and designated driver tickets will be $10. The festival will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Yinzer Valley Farms, 681 Mulberry Hill Road, East Huntingdon. Learn more at yvfarms.com.

'Into the Woods'

Let yourself become enchanted with this classic Stephen Sondheim musical that follows a number of fairy tale characters through a story about trials, wishes and magic. Hometown Arts Troupe will present the musical in four performances at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center.

Go along on a walk with Little Red Riding Hood, the baker and his wife, two princes, an evil witch and even Jack with his beanstalk. This adventure will have shows at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road, Greensburg. Tickets are $18. Party in the Park

Greensburg Community Days will be bringing everyone together for a lovely day in the park during this long weekend. The Greensburg Fire Department and Greensburg Night Market will present this day of fun at Lynch Field.

From 1 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the park will be full of food offerings, crafts, activities and live entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Then, don't leave too early, because there will be an awe-inspiring fireworks display.

Rescheduled from its original April date, this concert is bound to get you dancing and pumping your fist in the air. The legendary Celtic rock band Gaelic Storm will perform Friday at The Palace Theatre.

With more than two decades of success, Gaelic Storm is a mainstay of live shows and Irish festivals. With a devoted fan base, exhilarating songs and the ability to just create a good time, Gaelic Storm makes a must-see live show.

Tickets range from $24 to $71 and can be purchased at westmorelandculturaltrust.org. The show will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg.

Fort Ligonier 18th century encampment weekend

In celebration of Memorial Day, Fort Ligonier will allow you to transport yourself into the past to see the world through the eyes of an 18th century soldier stationed at the fort.

This weekend will show off weapons such as muskets and cannons from the periods of the Seven Years' War and the Revolutionary War, demonstrate everyday life for soldiers at the times of the wars and offer blacksmithing demonstrations.

Military Encampment Weekend will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Fort Ligonier, 200 S. Market St. The event is included with regular museum admission. Learn more at fortligonier.org.
