The West and North West has the second biggest number of the best paid doctors in the country.

The region is only surpassed by the HSE Dublin South East area, according to a HSE internal audit.

The audit found that 99 hospital consultants nationwide earned €350,000 or more in 2023, for public work.

According to today's Irish Independent, radiologists accounted for the largest number of high earners, followed by emergency medicine specialists and surgeons.
