Funding boost for town charity helping to maintain gardens for those in need

A CHARITY has received a boost for its work helping to maintain gardens as places of comfort and connection for those who need it most.

Knutsford GROW, which supports elderly and disabled residents, has received funding from Redrow's community fund to help cover essential operating costs.

The donation will also help part-fund one of the charity's only paid team members.

Gill Mortlock, trustee at Knutsford GROW, said: "This generous contribution means we can continue supporting frail, elderly and disabled residents with safe, welcoming gardens that offer comfort, dignity and connection.

"Some of those we help have been with us for more than 20 years, so this funding isn't just helpful, it's vital to the well-being of people who rely on us."

The charity, which has served the community since 1999, operates two days a week.

Its annual running costs are expected to reach £12,100 for the coming year.

Gill said: "Our volunteers are supported to achieve their goals, be it exercise, recovery, gaining confidence to enter or re-enter the world of work, or simply have increased self-worth by feeling good about helping others.

"One of our volunteers recently found paid employment as a gardener entirely due to the training he received with GROW."

The service is delivered by a team of volunteers, including individuals with learning disabilities, mental health challenges, or those recovering from serious medical events.

Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director at Redrow NW, said: "Knutsford GROW is at the heart of the community.

"Their assistance brings so much joy to residents who may not be able to care for their gardens or outside spaces, but they can still enjoy them thanks to the volunteers."

Knutsford GROW is funded through a mix of grants and donations, and also raises money by growing and selling donated seeds and plants.
