Here are the District 8-2A teams and players to watch heading into 2025

District 8-2A has seven teams competing in the 2025 high school football season. The district consists of Baker, Capital, Dunham, East Feliciana, Episcopal, Northeast and Slaughter Charter.

Preseason favorite: Dunham

Dunham is coming off an undefeated regular season in which they reached the Division III select state championship game and return one of the nation's top quarterback recruits in junior Elijah Haven.

Others to watch: Episcopal, Slaughter Charter

Episcopal returns a senior quarterback, and their only district loss last season was against Dunham. Slaughter finished third in the district and enters 2025 with the most players they've ever had.

Five Players to Watch Elijah Haven

QB | Dunham

The junior had 3,093 passing yards and 37 touchdowns as a sophomore, receiving offers from LSU, Alabama and other top programs as the No. 1-ranked Class of 2027 quarterback recruit in the nation.

Taj Callahan

RB | Episcopal

The senior makes the switch to running back after starting at linebacker the past two years and is expected to be a go-to option for an offense that has all new starters at the skill positions.

Ty'Kimion Ford

WR/CB | Slaughter Charter

The senior started at quarterback last season but is shifting into a new role as a two-way contributor at wide receiver and cornerback.

Kayden Wilson

LB/FB | East Feliciana

The senior is a returning starter at middle linebacker who also contributes some on offense at fullback.

Jarvis Washington

WR | Dunham

The senior caught 52 passes for 976 yards and 10 touchdowns last season and is committed to South Alabama.

* Dunham returns eight starters on offense, and senior running back JJ Harris is back after missing the majority of last season due to injury. Dunham coach Neli Weiner said that Harris "adds another element to the offense."

* Episcopal has reached the quarterfinals in each of the past eight seasons under longtime coach Travis Bourgeois. The Knights only have six returning starters but return a three-year starter in senior quarterback Zach Hu.

* Slaughter Charter is coming off a winning record after moving up to Class 2A last season. Coach Patrick Clarkston believes that this year's team can compete for the district title if their young offensive line develops.

* East Feliciana returns two-year starter Markus Cannon at quarterback. Baker alum Marc Brown returns to his alma mater as the only first-year head coach in the district.

* Northeast and Capitol have continuity at head coach. Devyn Baker is entering his fourth season at Northeast, and veteran coach Keith Woods is in his second season at Capitol.
