Projectiles were hurled at police, punches and kicks were thrown and a barricade of officers were pushed through - leaving 26 cops injured in a shocking display of anger, rage and hatred
Tommy Robinson's far-right thugs invaded London "intent on violence" and left over a score of cops with broken noses, concussions and other injuries. The Met were shocked when between 110,000 and 150,000 'Unite the Kingdom' demonstrators descended upon the capital - a lot more than expected.
The trouble started when Tommy Robinson - real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon - supporters tried to breach a "sterile zone" established by the cops to keep them away from the 5,000 counter protesters. Projectiles were hurled at police, punches and kicks were thrown and a barricade of officers were pushed through - leaving 26 cops injured.
While Tommy Robinson addressed the rally, a group of his supporters scaled an historic building and repeatedly shouted his name while gesturing to those gathered below. Car salesman Elon Musk also made an appearance via video link to stick his oar into UK politics in calling for the Parliament to be dissolved.
A controversial adult star was among the protestors who was decked out in a barely there bikini holding a sign which read, "get them out". Other 'celebs' at the march included Katie Hopkins and Ant Middleton.
In a lengthy statement issued as the rally wound down, the Met said: "While both protests began largely without incident, it is deeply regrettable that a number of those who were part of the 'Unite the Kingdom' protest became involved in disorder in multiple locations.
"We estimate the attendance at that event to have been between 110,000 to 150,000, significantly exceeding the estimates of organisers. There was insufficient space to fit them all in Whitehall and Parliament Square, with crowds backing up onto Bridge Street and Westminster Bridge.
"A number of people turned off onto Victoria Embankment to get out of the crowds which was understandable. However, we then saw large crowds ignore police directions, turning left up Horse Guards Avenue, Whitehall Place, Northumberland Avenue and Craven Street in an effort to get into Whitehall, including into sterile areas and areas occupied by those taking part in the Stand Up To Racism protest."
It continued: "When officers intervened to block their path they were assaulted with kicks and punches. Bottles, flares and other projectiles were also thrown and concerted attempts to get past barriers were made.
"Officers had to put on full protective equipment and in a number of places had to use shields. Horses and dogs were also used to keep the Unite the Kingdom protesters away from opposing groups. In addition to the violence directed at officers, we saw people scale fencing and scaffolding around Whitehall, climbing to height putting themselves and others in danger."
"As of 19:30hrs we had seen 25 arrests for offences including affray, violent disorder, assaults and criminal damage."
The rally took a dark turn when "several officers were assaulted" while others were "attacked with projectiles". The Met said several of it's officers were "assaulted" as Tommy Robinson protesters tried to pass police cordons and reach counter-protesters.
The force's statement read: "Officers are having to intervene in multiple locations to stop Unite the Kingdom protesters trying to access sterile areas, breach police cordons or get to opposing groups.
"A number of officers have been assaulted." In an earlier statement, the Met said: "A crowd of 'Unite the Kingdom' protesters attempted to enter the sterile area on Whitehall that is place to keep the two protests apart. Officers were attacked with projectiles and have had to use force to avoid their cordon being breached."
As Tommy Robinson's delivered his speech, his supporters scaled a historical London building. Shocking footage showed Tommy supporters with flags tied to their necks on the building's roof while the far right-wing activist spoke to the crowds.
Further images also show protestors climbing on statues close to Westminster Bridge in Central London.
The rowdy demonstrations began just after midday on Saturday (September 13). However, counter-protests against the gathering were also organised by the Stand Up to Racism charity -- with backing from the Hope not Hate organisation -- calling for a huge turnout against the original demonstration.
A controversial adult star also joined the Tommy Robinson protests in a tiny bikini while carrying a "get them out" sign. Lana Wolf travelled from her native Scotland to take part in the 'United the Kingdom' demonstration alongside 110,000 other anti-immigrant protesters.
Decked out in a barely there bikini and Union Flag trousers, the avid Rangers fan posed in front of Big Ben holding a sign that read, "get them out". It is unclear what exactly she wanted to "get out".
In another post on social media, she wrote, "The t*** of patriotism" alongside another picture of her in the bikini.
In a video address to the protestors, car salesman Elon Musk called for the "dissolution of Parliament" and slammed the "woke mind virus" in an address to Tommy Robinson's protesters.
In comments likely to further excite the crowd, Musk said: "I really think that there's got to be a change of Government in Britain. You can't - we don't have another four years, or whenever the next election is, it's too long.
"Something's got to be done. There's got to be a dissolution of Parliament and a new vote held."
He also said that there was something "beautiful" about being British and added "the left is the party of murder" referencing the death of Charlie Kirk.
"There's so much violence on the left, with our friend Charlie Kirk getting murdered in cold blood this week and people on the left celebrating it openly.
"The left is the party of murder and celebrating murder. I mean, let that sink in for a minute, that's who we're dealing with here."
