Jet owned by Mötley Crüe's Vince Neil crashes into parked plane
Vince Neil is opening up about his recent health scare, which led to Mötley Crüe postponing their Las Vegas residency.
During a Sept. 12 interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Neil revealed that he had a stroke at the end of 2024.
The musician said he felt fine when he went to sleep on Christmas night, but when he woke up, he wasn't able to get out of bed. He explained, "My whole left side went out."
Neil reflected on his recovery journey post-stroke, telling the publication, "I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough."
"The doctors said they didn't think I'd be able to go back on stage again," he said. "I go, 'No, no, I'm gonna do it. Watch and see.'"
The musician's recovery process required the band's shows in Las Vegas to be postponed by several months.
On March 4, Mötley Crüe announced on social media that their Las Vegas residency, set to run between March 28 to April 19, would be moved to September "due to a required medical procedure" advised by Neil's doctors.
Neil told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the band's decision to reschedule the dates was so he "could get better."
The musician spent months in physical therapy at his home in Nashville, Tennessee. Opening up about his progress, he said, "I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn't walk myself, finally to a wheelchair."
"I graduated to a walker, and then I had a cane," he added. "Now I don't need anything. But it's like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again."
While the singer clarified his voice wasn't affected by the stroke, he detailed his difficult journey learning to move his body the same way as before.
"It takes a while to get your brain to start moving your legs, for them to do what your brain wants to do," he explained. "You try to walk but it doesn't come out right."
Through his recovery period, not only has Neil re-learned to walk, he taught himself how to run again, adding that he's "90-95% to where I was before."
His months-long recovery led up to the band's residency, which kicked off Sept. 12. Mötley Crüe is scheduled perform a limited run of 10 shows until Oct. 3 at Dolby Live at Park MGM.
After the original residency dates were postponed, Neil shared a message with fans, which read in part, "To all the Crüeheads who were looking forward to see us this Spring, I'm truly sorry."
"My health is my top priority so I can bring you the awesome shows you deserve, and I can't wait to return to the stage," he added. "Thank you for all the well wishes that keep reaching me. Your support means more than you know."
His bandmates Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee and John 5 also shared a message of support at the time, wishing their bandmate "a speedy recovery."
"We are looking forward for him to get well again and to take over Vegas together in September," they said. "We can't wait to see you all out there, and thank you for your understanding and support in the meantime."
