Hello, Singapore! Mary Grace Café to open first international branch

MANILA, Philippines -- Singaporeans, Singapore-based Filipinos, and tourists can now enjoy the warmth of Mary Grace's freshly baked pastries, because the homegrown cafe is opening its first international branch in Singapore soon.

The news comes after a successful three-day pop-up in September, where Mary Grace Café sold out its classic, buttery ensaymada and famous cheese rolls to long lines of excited patrons.

During the pop-up, a box of six ensaymadas cost $31.50 SGD (P1,418), while a box of six cheese rolls cost $24.50 SGD (P1,103)

According to Singaporean travel guide TimeOut, the pop-up sold out its goods despite its "low-key" advertising.

"Dear family and friends, The secret's out: the ovens are warming, the butter's melting, and something truly special is rising on our sunny shores," Mary Grace wrote, confirming that they are preparing to open their first store in Singapore.

"We're overjoyed to invite you to be among the first to experience these comforting bites of home -- freshly baked with a mother's love, just as they were 30 years ago," they added.

There are no official details on the exact location, complete menu, and opening date yet; however, the restaurant launched an Instagram account @cafemarygrace.sg and a website where updates will be posted.

The household name has been known for its homemade Filipino baked goods and food for over three decades. But before its national success, it all started with the humble home cook, Mary Grace Dimacali, who is a mother of five.

The Mary Grace brand, known for "freshly baked goodness daily," first rose to fame for its ensaymadas, cheese rolls, and cakes.

Matriarch Mary Grace, who had no formal background in baking, started selling her homemade ensaymadas in bazaars before selling them at her first mall kiosk at Glorietta 4 in 2000.

In 2004, the family opened the first Mary Grace café and has been serving other crowd-favorite, best-selling baked goodies since then, as well as hot meals, sandwiches, pasta, and more.

Since its humble beginnings, the cafe now has over 140 outlets in the country. - with reports from Alyana Fabella/Rappler.com
