Kidman discussed her mother's passing during an interview with Allure. "Losing my mother changed every part of me," she recalled. "I spoke to her every second or third day. And because she was on the other side of the world, if I woke up at 5:00 a.m., I'd get up, I'd walk around the block, and I'd talk to her for an hour before the girls got up, before Keith got up. That was the rhythm of my day."
The Moulin Rouge! actress candidly spoke about how she continues to deal with her grief. She said that she was still "raw with it" and felt embarrassed because a part of her thought she had spoken about it enough. "So I have to keep saying to myself, It's okay," she added, "Maybe it's my sense of what I feel I should be doing. I'm trying to be quiet and have it be a more intimate thing with just my friends or my sister."
Kidman indicated that the love between her and her mother was "so profound" that the loss of it was devastating. She explained, "I'm on the journey of grief, the year of magical thinking."
Janelle Ann Kidman was a nursing instructor and was also involved with the Women's Electoral Lobby. She also reportedly served as an editor for her husband, Antony Kidman, a noted biochemist, author, and clinical psychologist who passed away in 2014. Besides Nicole, the couple were parents to journalist and TV presenter Antonia Kidman.
